For years a key attraction of the BlackBerry mobile phone has been that if you run Outlook on your PC or Laptop you could keep it in sync with your phone. For example; if you added a meeting to your calendar whilst you were out and about, this would show up on your PC back at the office. And if you replied to a mail on your BlackBerry whilst out of the office, again this would be reflected in the Outlook mail on your desktop. But the trouble was that this synchronization came at a price.
The price was that of something called a BES (BlackBerry Exchange Server). This expensive server was required to make synchronization work. Only big corporates had the budget and expertise to afford one. Those not working for large companies didn’t have this key benefit of the BlackBerry. Eventually third party providers began to offer this service but it was relatively expensive and there were still technical issues (we know we tried several providers).
That’s where BBinSync comes in. BBinSync is a simple piece of software – you just download it to your phone and it lets you stay in Sync. The Requirements
You need to be using Microsoft Exchange Version 2003 and above with ActiveSync enabled and Microsoft Outlook 2003 or above. That’s most people using MS Exchange — the odds are you will be supported if you use already use Exchange and Outlook for your email.
What if you don’t use MS Exchange? There are two easy options. Simply ask your existing provider if you can upgrade, or visit our Technical Requirements page for more details
What if you don’t know? Easy, just ask your email provider. If you are using Outlook you may well be on Exchange.
Mac user? The latest Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition is supported.
